Hello again! I think we all know that the U.S. Gov. spends a lot.
I've heard a figure--it's just staggering--the Gov spends (Or at least they used to)
spend $1M an hour. One Million Dollars Every Stinkin Hour! that's like you spending
$100 an hour! You cannot sustain that for very long without huge effects!
And the worst part of it all is that the Gov. spends money on, well, crap!
According to The Heritage Foundation,
the Defense Department purchased and then left unused approximately 270,000 commercial airline tickets at a total cost of $100 million. More horrendous, the Pentagon didn't get a refund for these fully refundable tickets. The GAO blamed a system that relied on department workers to notify the travel office when purchased tickets went unused. They were probably having a Govt. funded office party
at the time...
Also according to The Heritage Foundation,
55,000 USDA credit cards are in circulation,
including 1,549 that are still held by people who no longer work at the USDA.
and in a year and a half, Air Force/Navy personnel spent:
- $48,250 on Gambling
- $69,300 on Cruises
- $73,950 on "Exotic dance clubs and Prostitutes."
You tell me if you think you know, because I sure don't...
What has Obama done to combat this terrible spending on things
we don't need? Watch this if you have a minute and thirty-eight.
WHAT STORIES OF GOVT. SPENDING
HAVE YOU HEARD?
WHAT WILL YOU DO ABOUT THIS?

The current deficit will not be resolved in a few years no matter who is President. As anyone who has been unemployed without assets to fall back on knows, it takes much, much longer to maintain life and dig out of the hole than it does to dig the hole. The current mess started in the 1980s with Reagan after years of declining debt since WWII. The first Bush continued the trend. Things improved under Clinton, including paying of the WWII debt, but with Bush II further debt was incurred at an increasing rate. Years of greed and irresponsibility brought us to this mess and it will take years to undo it. To see charts Google US National Debt History by President or look up same in Wikipedia.
ReplyDeleteThis video was a great visual for the vast amount of over spending within the government. It was also extremely sad to see what percentage has been cut thus far. However I feel there could have been more context involved.
ReplyDelete1) As Anonymous pointed out, the debt has built up for many decades under many administrations. It would be unfair to expect one administration to be able to cut it down significantly within a matter of 2 years.
2) As a people we have come to expect the government to provide for us. When cuts are made we cry about how we are entitled to free healthcare, housing, chocolate, or whatever happens to be on the chopping block. With the purposed cuts to Planned Parenthood you hear such things as "the government is waging a war against women" and other such statements. The government can't make quick, sweeping steps toward fixing the budget issues when the people refuse to let go of their programs.
3) Fiscal conservatives (of which I am one) have been begging and pleading for cuts to be made. It is hard for me to listen the same people complain about how small the cuts are when they are made. Instead of ridiculing Obama for making a wimpy cut (which it totally was) could we encourage him to approve 100 more of these small cuts... and then another 100.. and then another 100. Soon they would start adding up to something. I think that would be really constructive.
Good job on the blog Cuz!!
Eeeeeeeeeeeek!
ReplyDeleteI shared the vid on my Facebook.
We are in a muddle.
Holy cow! That visual was enlightening and sickening at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThe video gives a very good visual, and really something to think about! Imagine if we all spent money like that in our own personal lives, it's not possible. SO why then should the government keep doing it?
ReplyDelete[Anonymous 1] What has Obama done though? You never mentioned him, even though he's been here for 3 years...
ReplyDelete[marnie] I wasn't asking anyone to reverse the train wreck, that's clearly impossible, but why are we chugging full-force towards China? Didn't we TRIPLE or so our debt in a couple years?
ReplyDeleteA large majority of the nation would sit down in front of a TV for months on end just watching South Park if the Government stopped giving us free muffins. At least make the muffins cheaply made and tasty though (I likened this to School.)
